Showered With Memories
Hosting a Scrapbook Baby Shower
By Melissa Granberry
Skip the traditional baby gifts and shower games. Instead, combine a favorite hobby with the celebration of Baby's anticipated arrival: Host a scrapbook shower!
Brooke Burnette, from Allen, Texas, was given a scrapbook shower when she was pregnant with her second child. She chose a 12x12 baby album for her friends and fellow scrapbookers to decorate. "By the end of my shower, I had approximately 15 pages decorated to put in Luke's album," says Burnette. "With an infant and a 2-year-old, it was difficult to find time to work on my scrapbooks. Knowing the pages were already prepared was an enormous relief for me."
The baby shower may be the expectant mother's first experience with scrapbooks. If so, Jane Kennedy, a Creative Memories consultant in Houston, suggests a smaller album that may not be so overwhelming. The smaller albums can be purchased with "Snap Packs" that have pages already selected and organized for boys or girls. "Everything you need to create the page has been pre-cut and conveniently organized with instructions," says Kennedy. "After guests have completed their page, they can sign it, personalize it or add a few words of advice for the new mother."
Creating a calendar is another activity that can be done at a baby shower. "Each guest decorates one month of the calendar," says Debbie Ramsey, a Creative Memories unit leader from Allen, Texas. "At the end of the shower, the honored guest has a unique calendar to record all of her baby's special events."
