Awesome Foods for Active Kids: The ABCs of Eating For Energy And Health (Hunter House, 2006) by Anita Bean
A Review
By Charlene Torkelson
Of course parents want their children to be healthy and happy, so we all pay attention to what our children eat in that quest for health. What would make this particular book, Awesome Foods for Active Kids: The ABCs of Eating for Energy and Health (Hunter House, 2006) by Anita Bean, worthwhile for parents? After all, we've all heard the televised reports and read the magazine and book articles dealing with proper eating. We all know what they should eat. We all know that our current generation of children is prone to sitting behind the computer or watching the television – a more sedentary lifestyle than past generations. And that the availability of processed, packaged junk food and fast foods makes their diet more laden with fats and sugars. So what can this book tell us that we don't already know?
This book encompasses all facets of eaters from the picky eaters to the highly active group to the overweight to vegetarians to those with eating disorders. Everyone is covered – it's not a one-size-fits-all solution to healthy eating. No matter what category or categories your child may fit, it is helpful to know not only why they are a picky eater – or an overeater, etc. – but what solutions are available to improve their eating habits. After all, our childhood habits follow us into adulthood.
