Couponing Secrets
Clip Your Way to the Cash
By Jill Eggleton Brett
Whether you're a beginning coupon user or a veteran, get your friends involved. Swapping coupons with friends who also use coupons is a wonderful way to get more and keep up on local deals. After you are finished with your Sunday inserts, trade with a friend. It's highly likely that she'll use different coupons than you do and vice versa.
When trying to build a stockpile of coupons, do not cut ones that you won't use. If you never buy croutons, leave that crouton coupon in the insert and pass on the insert to a friend. Don't waste time cutting and organizing coupons that will never be used. They take up space and cost precious time in the long run.
A convenient way to build up a stock of coupons on specific items you purchase often is buying coupons online. Simply log on to the Internet and use a search engine inputting the word "coupon." Presto! Several different purchasing sites will pop up and you're on your way to bigger and better savings. Typically, a site will offer coupons to purchase from 5 cents a coupon to 15 cents a coupon, depending on its face value. Also, most sites require consumers to purchase a minimum of five per coupon.
For example, you use a lot of baby wipes and you often buy a specific brand for $3. You then see a coupon for this brand in the Sunday inserts for $1 off. This, of course, is doubled at the local supermarket to $2 off. The $3 tub of wipes is now $1. Next, go online to a urchasing Web site to seek out more of these coupons. If you pay 10 cents for a $1 coupon online, you're still only paying $1.10 for the wipes.
