Couponing Secret #3: Organization
Organization is key when it comes to using coupons. This is especially true when a large number of coupons is involved. Keeping coupons in a plastic bag or cutting them out of inserts while shopping will eat up both time and money. Having a filing system is a great way to spend more time at home and less at the store. Start with a plastic shoebox or something similar that will fit into the rectangular child seat in a shopping cart. Sturdy baby wipes containers work wonders.

Next, purchase a box of small white business envelopes with a triangular flap to be used as files. Files can be organized alphabetically, categorically, or a combination of both. Not everyone buys the same types of products, so everyone's files may be different. It's important to streamline your files to fit your needs. For example, under the letter "B," there may be several different files and they all get their own envelope such as "Baby wipes," "Bacon," "Beverages: Bottled Juice," "Beverages: Coffee," etc. To start a filing system, take an envelope with the flap-side facing you and tuck the flap into the envelope. At the top of the tucked-in flap, write the first file's name and continue until all coupons have been organized. Simply insert the coupons into their corresponding envelopes and you're ready to go shopping.

Efficient organization helps get you ready for battle when those weekly supermarket sales come along. Coupling sales and coupons is one of the best ways to save money in the check-out line – you may even get some items for free.
