Rock Around the Block
Get Out and Meet Your Neighbors!
By Tamar Weiss
Decorate
When the party takes place outside, decorations can be at a minimum, but Goldberg notes that candles always create a warm glow and a feeling of intimacy. She says that if you look around your home you'd be surprised at the number of things you can use to decorate with at almost no expense. You'll most likely find baskets, candles, balloons, sports paraphernalia and more. Depending on your theme, with a little imagination, these things can become great decorations. Plan the Menu
Depending on the decided menu, make sure that you have all of the right equipment for barbecuing (and volunteers to do it), lots of ice for cold drinks (ShindigZ.com says to plan on about 1 pound per person) and utensils and space for all of the food. Cold fruit and vegetable salads are always received well on warm summer evenings. Make sure, if the weather is hot, not to serve foods that will spoil easily. Keeping these things in mind, a block party planned with the intention of improving and advancing friendship among neighbors is sure to be a hit.
