Don't Enjoy Cooking Every Night?
Try Cooking Once a Month!
5 Steps to a Month's Worth of Meals
You probably already have several main courses that you eat more than once a month. Figure out how many times you'll eat each dish. Usually three times a month is the most you'll want to confront the same meal, unless it's a real favorite that you eat once a week. Some dishes you'll only want once or twice in a given month. Play around with your menus until you've found a combination that suits you, and be sure to mark next to each recipe how many times you plan to have it during the month.
Step Two: Planning Your Shopping List
Here's where having that digital file comes in handy. Save a copy under a new name. Now go through the file and delete all the "how to" information, leaving only your ingredients. Then go through that list, and combine
things into one long list. For example, if you need five onions for one recipe and six for another, mark that you'll need eleven. Once you've combined all your ingredients, spend another few minutes separating the foods into categories: fruits and vegetables, frozen items, canned goods. This will make the actual shopping spree easier. Print out a copy of your list and save it with your menu file. If you use different menu files for different months, you'll only have to do the hard work once for each file. You'll also need to buy two boxes of the gallon-sized freezer bags.
