The Pillsbury Complete Cook Book
Recipes from America's Most Trusted Kitchens
A Review by Carma Haley Shoemaker
Called the "Ultimate Kitchen Companion," The Pillsbury Complete Cook Book offers both a familiar, reputable name as well as a face known by all – The Pillsbury Dough Boy.
The Pillsbury Complete Cook Book offers more than just recipes. With colorful pictures, helpful tips for serving, nutrition information and suggestions for variations, the recipes are both easy and fun to prepare.
Upon opening the cover, readers will find the beginning of numerous helpful tips with a list of emergency substitutions. Cooks try to keep their pantries well stocked but occasionally will find themselves without a needed ingredient. Whether honey, baking powder or milk, this list offers acceptable substitutions, which will allow a recipe to be completed stress free.
The pictures are not limited to the finished product, although these are plentiful. Visuals are available for step-by-step instructions on various baking methods, which allow even cooking novices and children to create a wonderful addition to any meal.
Throughout the book there are "Cooking Notes," which offer even more tips and tricks for preparation, presentation and use of utensils and ingredients. For example, information regarding the proper use of yeast offers tips for water temperature, checking for yeast activeness and the proper way to handle yeast breads. These tips can be taken from the book and applied to any recipe to ensure its success.
