Egg Safety
Know the Facts
Always inspect eggs before buying. They should look clean and not have any cracks. Bacteria can enter an egg even through the smallest crack. Put eggs immediately into the refrigerator when you get home. Store the eggs in their original container and use within three weeks. And have you heard the one about floating an egg in water to see if it's fresh? It's true! A fresh egg will sink to the bottom, while older eggs will float up slightly as they age. An old egg will float completely on the surface of the water. Do not eat it!
Have you ever wondered why some hard-boiled eggs peel easier than others? This depends on how fresh the eggs are. Very fresh eggs will peel very easily, while older eggs, stored 7 to 10 days or more, are harder to peel.
