- Turkeys weighing 8 to 10 pounds are best for deep-frying.
- Do not stuff turkeys for deep-frying.
- Never leave the hot oil unattended.
- Allow the oil to cool completely before disposing or storing.
What is the best way to store leftover turkey?
Remember these food safety tips when storing leftover turkey:
- Remove stuffing from turkey and meat from bones within two hours after roasting turkey. Store in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Store turkey, stuffing and gravy in separate containers.
- Use refrigerated turkey, stuffing and gravy within three to four days.
- For longer storage, freeze leftovers. Use turkey within three to four months.
How can you reduce stress related to hosting Thanksgiving dinner?
There's plenty to stress about during the holidays, and often, it can come down to the turkey. Jennie-O Turkey Store® Oven Ready turkey recently conducted a survey with Kelton Research that found out of all the components of the Thanksgiving meal, more than five in 10 Americans (21 percent) say that turkey is most likely to be the biggest fiasco.
Even more interesting, 71 percent of Americans admitted to resorting to various schemes to avoid making a full turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Some of these schemes included the following:
- Cooking a turkey breast (51percent).
- Making a non-traditional meal that doesn't include a turkey (46 percent).
- Ordering takeout or going to a restaurant (36 percent).
- Purchasing a pre-cooked turkey or catering the meal (28 percent).
- Refusing to host Thanksgiving dinner (23 percent).
