Whether you have German blood in you or not, nothing says comfort like some good old-fashioned weiner schnitzel with sp㳺le (tiny dumplings) and apfelstrudel for dessert. But be warned: Enjoy it with moderation or risk looking like one of the beer barrels rolled out at the fest-halls!

Rollbraten am Speiss is a tantalizing pork roast seasoned with a parade of spices and roasted over an open flame or in an oven. Complete your main course with potato salad, sauerkraut soup or homemade spatzle and cucumbers in sour cream. Finish your meal with baked tortes and coffee brewed with milk instead of water.

You may not live in a community that offers Oktoberfest activities for your family, but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate Oktoberfest in traditional German style. Children love any reason for a party, and one that weaves in different foods, music and language is a great way to learn about different cultures.
