The Many Health Benefits of Soy

The amount of isoflavones present in food varies and is dependent on how the food is processed, but isoflavones remain viable as they are cooked. Anne Patterson, R.D., a soy specialist and president of Nutrition Advantage, a food and nutrition consulting company, states, "...overall benefits of isoflavones...are best met by eating a varied diet from all food groups, built upon a foundation of one serving of soyfood with plenty of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and other legumes each day."
Where Can You Find Soy Products?
If you truly desire a healthy soy-based lifestyle, you may need to shop at Asian food stores and health food stores, although soy products are becoming more prevalent in health food sections of supermarkets. Many mail order companies specializing in health food will offer a wide range of soy products as well. "Tofu and certain brands of veggie burgers and hot dogs can be found in most majr supermarkets these days," says Melanie Wilson, editor of the Vegetarian Baby and Toddler Newsletter
