Stick-It-Out Stamina

Maintaining Your Weight Loss Goals

Perfect Timing
Don't go longer than four hours without something to eat. If you wait until you're starving, you'll eat faster and consume more calories than if you keep your appetite level. Avoid sweet, carbohydrate-heavy foods, especially during the morning to mid-afternoon. They make your blood sugar rise and then fall quickly, setting yourself up for a raging sugar binge.

Start off Right
The best way to start the day is with a meal balanced with some protein, carbohydrate and a little fat. Most people think that fat should be avoided at all costs, but in reality, a little fat in a meal gives it staying power. You'll feel satisfied and energetic longer.

Here's an example of a great "lose the pounds" diet:

Breakfast
Choose from foods such as eggs or tofu (or egg whites if your cholesterol is high). Mix in some spinach, mushrooms and a teaspoon of Parmesan cheese in a pan sprayed with vegetable oil. Include a side of fruit and half a bagel. Instead of cream in your coffee, try one of the new fat-free coffee creamers. They add richness without a lot of calories.

Stick-It-Out Stamina-Maintaining Your Weight Loss Goals Have a healthy snack mid-morning, such as a non-fat yogurt.
