What's for Dinner?
Let's Have a Cookout! By Allison Huller McAlister
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
2 ounces (1/2 cup) crumbled bleu cheese
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons salsa
4 hamburger buns, split
4 slices Colby-Monterey Jack cheese
Heat grill. In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, bleu cheese, chili powder, salt and pepper; mix well. Shape mixture into four half-inch-thick patties.
In a small bowl, combine barbecue sauce and salsa; blend well and set aside. When ready to grill, place patties on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals. Cook 11 to 13 minutes or until patties are thoroughly cooked, turning and brushing once with barbecue sauce mixture.
To toast buns, place cut side down on grill during last one to two minutes of cooking time. Place one slice of cheese on each patty and cook an additional minute or until cheese is melted. Place topped patties in buns. Makes four burgers.
This is a great recipe to keep on hand for those occasions that require you to bring a covered dish. Bet you won't have many leftovers!
