Expert Q&A

Are there any substitutes for condensed milk? My daughter is in the Ukraine where they don't have condensed milk and she would like to make a pumpkin pie.

Do you have a recipe for pumpkin pie that doesn't call for condensed milk?

Answer:

Sure! Here's a recipe that doesn't call for condensed milk:

Pumpkin Pie

1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1 can (29 ounces) pumpkin puree
1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pastry shell

Combine first seven ingredients in a large bowl; beat at low speed of a mixer until smooth. Pour into pastry shell. Bake at 425 degrees F for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.

Serves 8.
