Expert Q&A

What can I substitute for cottage cheese in recipes?

It depends on the recipe, of course, but if cottage cheese is to be used as the base for dips, sour cream or cream cheese could be used. Ricotta cheese is another good substitute for cottage cheese particularly when used in baking. The flavor of ricotta cheese is slightly sweeter and has a smaller curd than cottage cheese. It's great in cheesecakes.
