Expert Q&A

What is the best method for baking potatoes in the oven?

Scrub them clean and stab them a few times with a sharp knife. Place directly on the rack in a 425 degree F oven. Depending on the size of the potato, it should be about an hour -- more or less -- before they are done.

I don't like oiling the jackets or wrapping them in foil (that just steams them). A perfectly baked potato is easy to achieve but you must be willing to keep an eye on your tater (pardon the pun).
