Which antacid is best to take during pregnancy?
The best antacid to take during pregnancy is one that lists calcium carbonate as the active ingredient. The reason this one is best for most women is because it can help to ensure an adequate calcium intake. It can cause constipation in some women so it's best to check with your physician before taking anything.
Sometimes people refer to Pepcid AC, Tagamet HB and Zantac 75 as antacids. Actually these are called H2 blockers - they reduce the amount of acid produced. If you were asking about these medications, I usually recommend Pepcid AC. It is the least likely to interact with any other medications. But again since interactions can occur, it's best to check with your physician before taking anything.
