Are bananas a good first food?

The most important thing to remember when introducing a baby to its first food [other than breast milk or baby formula] is that it should be easily digested and not have a strong likelihood of triggering an allergic reaction. The most common first food (the one recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics) is baby rice cereal. However, there are several other foods which are also commonly given, including bananas. A mashed, ripe banana is easy to digest for the baby and is a nutritious choice.
