Expert Q&A

Do vitamins go bad?

Vitamins do expire. Check the expiration dates when you purchase them to ensure that you will use them before that date. Heat, humidity and light can all affect the potency of vitamins. Vitamins should be stored in the same manner as most medications: in a cool, dry, dark place. Keep them tightly closed in the original container. Bathrooms are not ideal because they are often damp. Do not refrigerate vitamins unless the manufacturer suggests refrigeration. The best place to store vitamins would be a cupboard out of reach of children."
