Expert Q&A

What should I look for when buying vitamins for my child?

Unless a child has a specific deficiency or nutritional problem, just a basic multivitamin with minerals is sufficient. Good flavor is usually the most important requirement for children. Ask relatives, friends and neighbors what brand their kids prefer. Keep in mind that multivitamins do not contain a lot of calcium because it's big and takes up a lot of space in the vitamin. If your child does not drink much milk or get much calcium in his diet, he may need an additional calcium supplement."
