Creepy Cake
Ingredients
Cake mix
Frosting (dark chocolate or tinted black)
Tube of white or light-colored decorating icing and writing tip
Light-colored cookies (round, square or oval) a.k.a. "tombstones"
Chocolate wafer cookies or chocolate graham crackers, coarsely crumbled
Candy pumpkins or candy corn (for decoration only)
Plastic ghosts, spiders, etc. (for decoration only)
Black licorice, optional (for decoration only)
Directions
Follow cake mix package directions and bake cake in a 9x13-inch pan. Cool for 20 minutes. Remove from cake pan. Frost cake with dark icing.
Drizzle coarse cookie crumbs over top of frosted cake so top of cake resembles dirt. Decorate cookies using decorating icing and writing tip with tombstone sayings such as "R.I.P" or "Here Lies..." (it's fun to personalize!).
Insert "tombstones" into cake, allowing writing to be seen. Add plastic ghosts, spiders, etc. Let ghosts emerge from "graves." Use a dot of icing to stick ghost to tombstone or have ghosts "emerge" from cake.
Tear black licorice vertically about halfway down to create "trees." "Plant" trees in cake. Add candy pumpkins or candy corn, as desired.
