| Rock Candy |
| 1 glass jar or drinking glass 1 piece cotton string 1 pencil or stick 1 paper clip 1 drop food coloring, optional 1 cup water 2 cups sugar Additional sugar |
| Tie a short piece of the string to the middle of the
pencil. Tie the paper clip to the bottom of the string to serve as a weight.
With a small amount of water, moisten the string, and then roll in some sugar.
Put the string inside the jar leaving the pencil covering the top to serve as a
hanger. Heat the water to a boil, and then add the 2 cups of sugar. Stir to dissolve and then add food coloring, if using. Pour the mixture CAREFULLY into the jar. Put somewhere safe and do not touch for at least two days, then watch your crystals start to grow! |
