Macaroni and Cheese
Elbow macaroni cooked with a creamy white sauce.
Ingredients
1 cup elbow macaroni
4 tablespoons margarine
1 small onion, chopped fine
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
Directions
Cook the macaroni according to package directions. While cooking, melt 1 tablespoon of the margarine in a skillet. Saut矴he onion until soft. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of margarine, the milk, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook until thick and bubbly.
Layer half of the macaroni in a baking dish. Top with 1/3 of the cheese. Repeat layers. Pour white sauce on top, and then top with remaining grated cheese. Bake at 325 degrees F for about 30 minutes.
Suggestions
Try different cheeses in this dish for a change. Monterey Jack, swiss, mozzarella, or a combination of two cheeses, works well.
